Vehicle & Title Questions

You can request a duplicate title or registration through our office. You will need,  the license plate number, year of vehicle, make and model of vehicle, expiration date of license plate, a valid ID and proof of insurance

Option 1 – You and the seller can come in with the title of the vehicle being purchased along with valid IDs and proof of insurance, if vehicle has a lien being recorded you must present copy of UCC-1 or Security Agreement, we will notarize the correct forms for the transaction and take care of the title transfer and registration for you.

Option 2 - Bring a properly notarized signed title, along with valid IDs and proof of insurance. We will take care of the title transfer and registration for you.

* If the vehicle title is not a Louisiana title, the seller’s out of state driver’s license must be submitted as proof of residency. If the seller is a resident of Louisiana with an out-of-state title, he/she must first title the vehicle in Louisiana before it can be sold.

You have 40 days from the date of purchase to register your vehicle without any penalties. After that period, late fees or additional charges may apply as determined by state regulations.

Yes, however if a vehicle is sold and a notary is not able to be present at the time of sale, two people must sign as witnesses to the sale on the back of the title, then one of the witnesses must appear before our notary to sign an “Affidavit by Witness”. Documents notarized outside our office are also acceptable.

You’ll need to report the theft to local law enforcement and bring the report to our office. We can help you get a replacement plate issued.

Yes. Bring your valid photo ID or other identifying documents, and we’ll help you request a duplicate license.

Yes. You can renew up to 180 days (6 months) before the expiration date. Early renewal helps you avoid delays.

In most cases, yes. As long as your current photo is on file and meets state requirements, you won’t need to retake it.

Yes. You’ll need a certified copy of your marriage certificate or court order, along with your current license and ID.

When you move to Louisiana, you’ll need to transfer your out-of-state license to a Louisiana one. To complete this process, you’ll be asked to turn in your previous license.

If you’re relocating from states such as California, Connecticut, Illinois, Kentucky, Nevada, Oklahoma, Vermont, or West Virginia and don’t have your old license in hand, you may need to present a copy of your official driving record instead.

You’ll also need to bring documents that verify your identity (one primary form and one secondary form) along with proof of your Louisiana address.

In certain cases, if you had a Louisiana license or ID in the past and your photo is still available in the state’s database, you may only be asked for one additional ID document.

Moving, Military & Special Cases

Bring your current out-of-state license, proof of residency, Social Security number, and birth certificate or passport.

Yes. Present your DD-214 or military ID during your license application or renewal, and we’ll add the veteran designation.

An NI flag means the system shows a lapse in insurance coverage. This can block license renewals until resolved.

Bring your proof of continuous coverage (insurance cards or letter from your provider), and we can help clear the flag.
